About the programme

The Master of Arts in the Teaching of English as a Second Language (M.A. TESL) programme combines theory, practice and research in issues related to the teaching of English as a Second Language (ESL). Students will develop the knowledge, competencies and attitudes required to identify and solve ESL-related problems by applying linguistic theories and pedagogical strategies to deliver effective second language instruction.

The M.A. TESL is intended for individuals who are:

  • currently teaching or intending to teach English to ESL learners
  • keen to enhance knowledge and competencies in teaching ESL
  • seeking to improve career prospects
  • planning to pursue a doctoral degree.

Experienced TESL teachers will find the programme especially suitable since seminars and tutorials are scheduled for weekends so that students can continue to teach full-time while undertaking the M.A. TESL programme.
